Lipsmart vs. Lip Fillers: Which is Best for My Thinning Lips?

Plump, full, luscious lips, whether they are big or small, are a sure sign of youth. Unfortunately, with age, lips seem to flatten and lose volume. Fortunately, there are ways to restore the volume without going under the knife.

Our expert at Soulage Wellness & Aesthetic Center, Dr. Pompeyo Chavez, explains the differences between Lipsmart and lip fillers and their uses.

Lipsmart vs. lip fillers

Lipsmart is a powerful topical treatment made of fats and humectants with the purpose of hydrating skin, eliminating fine lines, and improving the overall appearance of your lips. Hydrated lips may appear slightly plumper, but there isn’t an actual change in the volume of the lips after applying this product.

Lip fillers contain substances that attract moisture, and the most commonly used substance in lip fillers is hyaluronic acid. One molecule of hyaluronic acid can hold 100 times its weight in water, adding moisture and volume to the lips from the inside as the substance is injected.

Depending on how much hyaluronic acid is injected, Dr. Chavez can control the final look of the lips. Some may prefer more subtle results while others prefer a fuller lip.

For best results, sometimes Lipsmart and lip fillers are combined. Lipsmart addresses the outside issues (dry skin, lines, and poor hydration), while lip fillers add volume from the inside.

Adding volume to thinning lips

Lip fillers undoubtedly can add volume to your lips, and the results can last up to 12 months, depending on the filler used. Many first-time users of fillers are afraid that the substances used are not safe or that they might dislike the final results.

Dr. Chavez uses fillers that contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. In addition, while the final results are not completely controllable if you decide you dislike them, hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with the help of a special enzyme, so you won’t have to worry about being stuck with lips of a shape you dislike.
