What are Wrinkle Relaxers?

Wrinkle relaxers are injectable fluids that ease muscle contractions, the result being a smoother skin surface. Many of the age-related wrinkles that appear on the face and forehead are dynamic in nature, meaning that they form only when the skin is pulled or pinched. Whenever we smile or make other facial expressions, fine lines known as crow’s feet become more prominent around the eyes and the corners of the mouth. Botox® is one of the most popular wrinkle relaxers on the market, and the application of this treatment is very simple.

One reason that Botox® and other similar treatments are so popular has to do with the injection procedure. The special fluid used targets muscle tissue. The skin itself is not affected by the treatment, so there’s no risk of skin irritation. Many of our clients are wary of microdermabrasion, facial peels, and needling. Relaxing the facial muscles can help smooth away your wrinkles without damaging the skin surface.

The Secret Ingredient

So what is it about a wrinkle relaxing agent that allows the skin to remain smooth? These fluids contain a purified protein solution. In a diluted concentration, this solution blocks the chemical signals in the nerve endings. When the fluid is injected into the upper-level muscles in the face or forehead, the nerve signals no longer get through to the muscles. Even though the brain tells the muscles to contract, they remain in a more or less relaxed state. This means that the marionette lines and crow’s feet are now far less visible.

About the Treatment

We examine our clients’ facial features closely and watch as smiling and pouting is performed. Based on our observations, we’ll know just how much of the fluid to use and exactly where to inject it. We’re careful not to affect the lower-level facial muscles. After treatment, our clients still smile and pout as before, but the skin around the mouth, eyes, and on the forehead remain smoother. It takes about one week for the effect to become noticeable, and positive results are enjoyed for up to four months.

Advantages Over Other Treatments

There’s little to no downtime after treatment, and there’s also no visible discoloration in the skin. Since the skin itself isn’t being subjected to chemicals, abrasive resurfacing tools, or light energy, the treatment is suitable for all skin types. It doesn’t matter how much melanin is in the skin, and it doesn’t matter how strong or large the facial muscles are. This treatment is popular because virtually everyone who experiences age-related dynamic wrinkling is an ideal candidate.
