What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup is a highly advanced method of depositing tiny amounts of ink pigment into your middle skin layer, the dermis. The precisely placed ink deposits replicate the look of expertly applied — but still very natural-looking — makeup.

Is permanent makeup right for me?

How do permanent makeup sessions work?

The permanent makeup artist evaluates your skin tone and hair color while discussing your personal style and goals with you to create a treatment plan. Then, they use cosmetic pencils to create designs that give you a preview of the results. Your permanent makeup artist uses a variety of tools and methods, including both machine and hand methods, according to your needs. 

The process may be uncomfortable at times, but your permanent makeup artist uses topical anesthetics to help numb your skin.

Your initial appointment takes around 1.5-2 hours. You'll have 1-2 shorter appointments afterward to refine the shape, color, and pigment density.

What happens after my permanent makeup treatment?

Your treated area typically looks around 30% darker for up to a week. As the skin starts to heal, your top layer of skin naturally exfoliates to give you the true natural-looking results. 

You may have some mild discomfort and swelling for a few days after treatment. Over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs control this well. 

Your permanent makeup artist gives you a vitamin A and D ointment after your treatment. Apply this a minimum of three times a day for at least five days after your treatment session. 

It's best to avoid applying makeup in the treated areas until healing is complete. You should also avoid public swimming areas for a couple of weeks, as this exposure could allow bacteria to get into your healing skin.

How long do permanent cosmetics last?

It depends on your skin type, personal habits like sun exposure, and other factors unique to you. Generally, results last 2-6 years, as the pigment fades very gradually. When you notice fading, you can have a touchup to maintain results.
